Why Starlight is important to me - Fundraising for the Starlight Children’s Foundation

Did you know? Every minute of every day, a child is admitted to hospital in Australia.

At just 11 years old, I was diagnosed with cancer. From that moment on, the hospital became my second home. I spent countless days and nights in sterile rooms, undergoing treatment, facing fear and uncertainty that no child should have to endure.

But in the middle of that darkness, Starlight was there.

The Starlight Captains, the bright and welcoming Starlight Rooms, and the incredible Starlight team helped bring laughter, light, and a sense of normalcy into the hospital walls. They gave me something to look forward to when everything else felt so heavy.

When I was 13, I had my Starlight Wish granted. A moment of pure joy shared with my family that I will never forget and cherish forever. It reminded me that there’s more to life than sickness, and that there’s still magic, hope, and love even in the hardest times. 

This May, I’m taking on the  Starlight Super Steps challenge to give back. I’ll be walking or running twenty thousand steps every day (excluding my normal step count) for the whole month to raise funds for Starlight, so that other sick kids can have those same moments of joy and escape.

Your support means the world to me — and to the many children still fighting their battles in hospital rooms today. Every dollar you donate will help seriously ill children cope better with the pain and stress of treatment, and helps families feel more connected and positive about what lies ahead.
