I’m fundraising for the Starlight Children’s Foundation. And I need YOUR support.

Did you know? Every minute of every day, a child is admitted to hospital in Australia.

This May, I’m taking on the Super Steps challenge to raise funds that will make hospital a happier place for seriously ill children.

I’ve set myself a goal to walk or run thousands of steps every day, for an entire month. And I need your support.

When you sponsor my challenge, you’ll help create much needed happiness for sick kids and their families. The money you donate will help seriously ill children cope better with the pain and stress of treatment, and helps families feel more connected and positive about what lies ahead.

Any amount you can spare will help brighten kids’ lives when they’re going through tough times in hospital. Can I count on your support? - Starlight Super Steps.

Personal Reflection:

May is perfect for this ‘Super Steps’! It is doubly special as it is also my birth month. I’ve chosen to participate in this challenge as a way to say thankyou for life’s blessings. Trials and tribulations is of course part of life and I understand some have it harder than others. So rather than receiving, I’m giving this year for my birthday. A little gift for the kids in need, during their difficult times. I too was once a sick kid in hospital, although I was too young back then to recall the details, I believed without the support and help from those around me especially medical staff and treatments I would not have made it this far. I wish a better and happier future for the sick kids.

To be honest for those who really know me, I was never an exercise type and still not in many aspects. So participating here is a little out of my comfort zone. So apologise if I don’t always exactly meet my daily step goals. But I promise to challenge myself daily towards a better me and in return hopefully meet my fundraising goal.

'The Perfectly Imaginative Imperfect Mushroom' is here to help! I work under the alias #mingmushi (Mushrooms) They are a symbol of life and re-birth, positive vitality and they thrive under the harshest of environments. My wish is for sick kids to overcome all adversity. ‘My little steps’ for their ‘Super Steps’ and together create the greatest win in life!

Any help will be much appreciated and I thankyou for those who give their support.
Keep me and those sick kids in your prayers!

With the greatest love and gratitude -

Day 6 - Life's H20 - Heart, Hope, Optimism

Tuesday 6th May

Today is all about 'Water'. For most of us the chemical formula for water is H20 - 2 Hydrogen + 1 Oxygen. As 'Water' is necessary to sustain one's life, I too believe:

A willing (H)eart +
An unwavering (H)ope +
A touch of (O)ptimism...will push you further!

There is one famous Bruce Lee quote - "Be 'Water', my friend".
'Water' is very much a giving substance, it can conform to any space or object. It is never rigid and is constantly flowing. As for one's life, we should learn to be more flexible in any given situation. Let life flow in its own accord - its own circadian rhythm.

There are many other good life's metaphors that talk about 'Water', for example:

* Glass is Half Full
* Pebbles in 'Water'
* Pouring 'Water' into Full Cup

Flow with Abundance!

Day 5 - Cracks are Gold, Beauty in the Imperfection

Monday 5th May

One great day followed by a not so good one. That is life right? Today was a bit sluggish, followed by a mild headache. I managed to fit in a small quick walk but scrapping just under my daily step goals. But nevertheless this brings me to the topic for today - brokenness, in particularly beauty in the brokenness . Learning to accept or appreciate life's imperfections.

As you might or might not know there is a Japanese pottery artform known as 'Kintsugi'. It uses gold to repair cracks by joining broken pieces back together. It highlights the imperfections, adding to the value of the pottery.

Cracks in life might not always be a bad thing. It is a proof that you have endured and lived to tell the story. Your beauty comes from those hard experiences and you had come out on the other side much stronger!

Love your Imperfections!

Day 4 - The Ordered Chaos, Patterns in the Unknown

Sunday 4th May

Hooray! I broke my steps record today. More than doubled my daily goal of 6000 steps. The theme for today is 'Patterns & Order vs Chaos', or 'Order in the Chaos'. We often put 'Order' in our lives to eliminate the chances of 'Chaos', yet 'Chaos' always seem to find a way in. Learning from successful past role models, the trick is not to eliminate 'Chaos' but to 'Order your Mind' among the 'Chaos'.

This brings me to the famous - The Serenity Prayer:
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

We often dwell on the things we cannot change, bringing 'Chaos' on top of 'Chaos'. We are fearful to change the things we can, in case it disrupts our created 'Order'. And finally 'Order' and 'Chaos' becomes so jumbled up we don't know what's what anymore.

Pray for Wisdom!

Day 3 - Beauty in the Little Things

Saturday 3rd May

It certainly has been a packed day. Lots of commitments & celebrations. I was only able to fit in a brief stroll, travelling from one event to another. We sometimes focus on the bigger and more important things yet the small passes us by unnoticed. As brisk as was my walk, I took quick moments of stillness, pausing, to take snapshots of seemly unimportant or odd things beside the footpath.

* Will a brown wilted leaf ever be noticed among the vibrant green leaves?

* A hole in a trunk or falling bark be considered beautiful among the fruitful branches?

* Is a feather on the floor a sign of death & the lifeless or the ends of a lively pen scribe?

[Beauty comes from what we 'focus' on, rather than what things appears to be].

Amen to the Small but Beautiful!

Day 2 - Rise and Shine, finding Life's Silver Lining

Friday 2nd May

Living in the Hustle & Bustle of our Urban City life, you often forget, the Natural Occurrences that happen around us. From the rise of dawn, to the fall at dusk. We expect day in and day out that our Sun will appear as it should. But as you look beyond the noise into the silent drifting clouds, you realise -  if our Sun did not rise, hence rendering our world in eternally darkness, could we admire the clear blue sky or the nice shadows in which our Sun creates. Our life is like a big noisy city. Do we focus on the traffic jams and the big concrete walls that blocks us? Or do we find opportunities to let in some light - finding warmth among the cold and hard.

Say a little thankyou to our Sun with me!!!
Shine Bright!

Day 1 - Clearing the Clouds and Bridging the Gaps

Thursday 1st May

It's only Day 1 and I'm already stoked from all the support I'm getting. I wasn't expecting to reach my initial fundraising goal of $500 so quickly. Thankyou from the bottom of my heart. Every little bit goes towards a great cause I'm passionate about - helping sick kids in need. Although my initial bar has been reached I aim and hope to go further, continuing to increase my goals whenever a benchmark is reached. More support for the kids right? Don't stop! …those who still want to help out and kindly donate. I'll let my footwork be my appreciation and my sweat do the motivation. I'll post here daily, in the month of May, with a photo collage - "Snaps of the Day" as a token of my thanks, a reflection of my pathways and journeys. Continue to pray for me and those sick kids in need.

With love,
Tim
