Simple Ways to Build Support During Super Steps

12 May 2026
So, you’ve signed up for Super Steps, and you’re really excited to get started and step up for sick kids this May. You’re ready to get moving, your step counter is primed, and you are eagerly anticipating hitting your goal each day. There’s just one thing you aren’t sure of...

“How do I start fundraising… without feeling awkward?”

If that sounds familiar, you’re in good company. Many participants are enthusiastic about the challenge itself but feel hesitant when it comes to asking for donations. The reassuring news is that you don’t need to be outgoing, persuasive, or naturally confident to be an effective fundraiser.

Super Steps is designed to be inclusive and accessible for everyone — from those who enjoy sharing their journey widely to those who prefer a more reserved approach. Whatever your communication style or comfort level, there’s a way to participate meaningfully and engage in a way that feels authentic to you.

And the best part? Starlight provides a range of simple, supportive tools that make taking part in Super Steps feel natural, authentic, and completely pressurefree. It’s not about asking — it’s about sharing a meaningful initiative you’re involved in and giving people the chance to follow along and support a cause that brings joy and happiness to sick kids and their families.

1. Let Facebook do the talking

Connecting your fundraiser to your Facebook account is an easy, low-pressure way to raise awareness about your commitment and to gain support from your community. You can link your fundraiser to Facebook through your dashboard.

Once you link it, Facebook automatically:
  • Shows your fundraiser to friends
  • Tracks your progress
  • Makes donating a super simple process
2. Starlight’s Ready-Made Resources

Super Steps provides downloadable tiles, banners, stories, posts and other amazing resources you can share straight to your socials. This means you don’t have to craft a pitch if you don’t feel comfortable- these resources do the explaining for you. All you need to do is choose your favourite one, and you’re ready to post!

3. Progress Updates!

Posting and sharing updates with your community is an easy way of naturally reminding people you’re fundraising.

Posts like:

“Hit 8,000 steps today!”

“Day 8 and feeling good!”

“Halfway through the month #SuperSteps”

These updates remind people of your commitment and can inspire them to donate. Often, they will be happy to see your achievements and consistency and will want to cheer you on!

4. Share why you're stepping

Sharing why you’re stepping is also an easy and gentle way to fundraise. When people understand your motivation, they may naturally feel more connected to your challenge. A gentle explanation goes a long way. 💜

If you're not sure what to say, the “How to ask for donations” feature on your dashboard makes it easy. Just click the button, choose the option that you feel fits you best, and it will create a short paragraph you can post on your socials to help others understand your challenge.

Fundraising doesn't have to feel like asking. It can feel like sharing, celebrating, and inviting people into something that brings happiness to sick kids who need it most. If this resonates with you (and you haven't already), sign up for Super Steps and help brighten the lives of sick kids this May.
